Bass Festival London Launch

We're back in the office and (just about) fully recovered from the official launch of Bass Festival 2009 at Rich Mix, London, last night.

To launch the month-long festival, a special preview of 'Art's Own Kind' was held at Rich Mix. The exhibition, which runs at Rich Mix until 4th July, features the work of controversial artist Ghariokwu Lemi. Based in Nigeria, Lemi has designed over 2000 album covers in his career, including thirty for Afrobeat star Fela Kuti.

Lemi flew over to England to join us for the launch and was joined by Tony Allen, the man behind Fela Kuti's band and a pioneer of the Afrobeat movement. Other performers included Fela Kuti's keyboard planner, Dele Sosimi, Philadelphian producer and DJ Rich Medina, and artist Wunmi.

It was a fantastic night with a great crowd, and although we had to leave at midnight, the party was still in full swing...

Some of Lemi's orginal pieces were on sale... they were amazing!

Lemi's prints were hung around the venue... they're so detailed and vibrant, and I now know some of the inspiring stories behind them!

This was the philosophy beind Lemi; everything that he and his work stands for. I will get the full transcript from Punch and upload - it's a great read!

Here are some of the reprints by typography legend, Swifty. There will be one of these on the Rewired wall soon so pop round and see it!

The drinks vouchers asked 'What does the soundtrack to your struggle sound like'... what's yours?

Fantastic floor vinyls of Lemi's sleeves were placed around Rich Mix

It was an amazing night and everyone had a fantastic time.
