Katie’s Diary, Week 1

Well, what a first week it has been with Rewired PR.  It’s all-go here at the moment and there has been more than enough to keep me busy.  After a master class from Ruth on Monday about all the Rewired clients, processes and practices I was ready to hit the ground running.

Accompanying Tara to BPM Media on Tuesday was great.  We briefed a few journalists on Style in the City – an event very close to my heart!  After a couple of meetings over a pot of green tea it was straight back to the office to start working on some press releases for Punch Records.  Punch seems to be buzzing with activity at the moment, following the success of the 2009 Bass Festival they have a multitude of R&B, Soul and Jazz events coming up - all needing stories written about and promoting from Liverpool to London.

Wednesday was most definitely a highlight.  Tara had organised a fashion shoot to promote SITC.  After swanning up to the ‘Mail Room’ suite (complete with dressing room, four poster bed and rolltop bath with inbuilt television) on the seventh floor of Malmaison in the Mailbox we made our way to the MAC beauty counter to meet model Lulu, from Adage.  The lucky Australian model was clothed by Harvey Nichols and Selfridges, and looked particularly stunning in a checked Vivienne Westwood suit.  The male model Ricky Gallagher did not have the chance to be as pampered as he was immediately asked to do some shots outside in the pouring rain.

I could happily live in the Malmaison suite and wish that I could be so well looked after every time I needed to get dressed up!  The hairstylist from Francesco Group, Mia Dellicompagni was a great addition to the team; she did some amazing hair styles and seemed to particularly enjoy holding the flash for the photographer!  Look out for the shoots across the Sunday Mercury, Birmingham Post and Birmingham Mail from this Sunday.

Thursday and Friday have been spent in the office.  I am quickly learning how to write a press release – remembering the golden rules that it should be only 250 words long and headed up by a short and snappy headline.

The internship cliché of making the tea and doing the photocopying has definitely not been a reality at Rewired and can’t wait to see what the next three weeks has in store for me.

Katie, Your blog gives a fascinating insight into the high speed, high profile workings of Rewired PR. Also your writing style paints a vivid picture of what a intern's placement is really like. This appears to be wonderful whirlwind of creative energy mixed with solid team work and that last elusive ingredient - the ability to have fun. Somehow, that fun always seeps into the work. Your description of that exciting fashion shoot made me feel as if I had actually attended myself. Your are so fortunate to have won this placement which will demonstrate the many talents you have in both fashion and PR and, in turn, Rewired PR, in my opinion, will soon become aware of the fact that they have a very precious asset in you. Looking forward to your next blog. Keep 'em coming and Good Luck
