Katie’s Diary, Week 2

This week has ended up being a master class in how to run an event.  With Style in the City coming up it is all hands to the deck.  Next week sees the ‘Style in the City Designer Showcase’ which is a preview event being held in the run up to the main affair.

First of all, it was off to check out the venue and meet the other people involved.  I have never been to Fazeley Studios before and couldn’t believe it when Ruth opened up the main doors to find such a large, bright and beautiful building inside.  After a bottle of Evian and chat we went to look at some different spaces within the complex.  Deciding upon where to put the catwalk quickly became the most important issue and after strutting up and down some of the different areas we finally made a decision that everyone was happy with.

Once we had got back to the office the next task was to send out invitations – you cannot have an event without any guests after all!  Following invites being issued I have spent much of the week creating a database of RSVP’s and fielding both e-mails and phone calls.  The response has been really positive which is great and in turn, is keeping me very busy.

One of the major parts of the evening is to announce the winner of the ‘Design a Bag’ competition, who will be crowned ‘Designer of the Future 2009’.  After taking part in the B-hive scheme earlier this year, I know how nerve-wracking and exciting the situation is going to be and I can’t wait to meet some of the entrants next week.

In between event planning I have also been focussing on the events that Punch has got coming up.  I’m particularly involved in and excited about the Simphiwe Dana tour that is starting on 23 October.  Coming from South Africa and this being her first tour in the UK there is quite a buzz about her and her music.

We’ve also been listening to a lot of Dubstep in the office (which I would recommend for really waking you up at 9 in the morning) in an attempt to get more clued up on the genre.  I spent a lot of time researching the music and its roots this week prior to Punch’s Dub 2 Dubstep tour launching this winter.

I can’t believe another week is over and that it is a Friday once again.  Time flies when you’re having fun!
