Katie’s Diary, Week 4

The time is finally here for me to leave.  This is the fourth week of my B-hive placement with Rewired.

The week began on Tuesday with the lovely Sam Dowling joining the team.  After a quick team update it was on to replying to e-mails that had stacked up the weekend and thinking about everything that needed to be done during the week.

Thursday saw the press launch of Style in the City in Staying Cool’s penthouse suite in the Rotunda, meaning that Wednesday was by far the busiest day and was full of preparations.  Not only did we have 50 press packs to make up but there was food and drinks to be picked up, labels to print out and phone calls a-plenty to be made.

After a tiring day it was up early to the Rotunda.  The penthouse was beautiful if not a little scary 20 floors up!  After setting out glasses of bucks fizz and pastries for the press it was my job to welcome guests into the suite.  Meanwhile, in a suite on the 19th floor Emma Willis, who had been whisked over from Sutton Coldfield, was having her hair and make-up done.  After getting dolled-up the ex-MTV presenter came upstairs to greet the press.  Everyone was very impressed by how natural and charming she was and she concluded her speech with an impromptu ‘C’mon the Brummies!’ which got quite a few laughs.

After overseeing photos being taken paparazzi-style outside of the building and interviews being conducted, Tara and I waved goodbye and drove over to Chop and Wok.  Chop and Wok was a real find, a new noodle bar that was opened two weeks ago opposite the Mailbox.

Today has been my last day and started with presents being exchanged.  My leaving present was a brand new YSL Touche Eclat – a present that gave us a few laughs following a dream I had the other night that consisted of Ruth telling me I wasn’t fit to meet the press without putting my Touche Eclat under my eyes first!

It has been a great last day with Emma Willis appearing on the front page of Birmingham Post and a team lunch at Apres to welcome Sam, say goodbye to me and celebrate Rewired’s CIPR PRide Awards shortlisting.  I will be very sad to go but have had a fantastic month here that has been fast-paced, challenging and most of all, enjoyable.

Thank you Rewired!
