New York lifestyle is a piece of cake

Since my first visit to New York back in May, I have been missing the quirky culture that surrounds the city’s streets. Every time you turn a corner there is an unassuming art gallery, a café with the best mocha you have ever tasted, street dancers, graffiti artists… I could go on. One of the things I have been missing though is Magnolia Bakery; the cupcake shop that was made famous by Sex and the City.
But this week all that changed when I met Terry McDermott and Sylvia Jamieson, owners of The ArtLounge.

Based in The Mailbox, The ArtLounge, is one of Birmingham’s biggest contemporary art galleries. Last month they brought back their infamous café, complete with Illy coffee and Kiss Me Cupcakes. Not only is Kiss Me Cupcakes a local company, but they also make an amazing selection of cakes… I was spoilt for choice!

It was so lovely to escape the madness of Birmingham, whilst still being in the city centre, and have a cup of tea and cupcake. Even better, I got to look at some amazing art, especially ‘Kate Moss’ by Paul Normansell, which is now on my Christmas List… I’m sure Santa can afford the £5500 price tag!
Oh, and The ArtLounge clearly share my love for New York lifestyle too…

It’s great to see that independent retailers are still thriving in the city and giving Birmingham the quirky identity it deserves. The ArtLounge is a great place, so make sure you pay them a visit and have a cupcake. Let me know what flavour you have…

I never knew there was coffee shop in the Art Lounge. I'll definitely make a point of dropping in the next time I go to The Mailbox.
