People take pictures of places they have been to and things they want to remember. If you think photographs then you would usually associate them with holidays, celebrations, nature, people, etc. And most of the time they are taken in the daylight or in the evening when it’s still not that late.
But, have you ever thought of taking photographs at 4am? Someone could say ‘Nah it’s just the waste of time’ or ‘I could be in my bed at this time. Forget it!’ I got such answers from my housemates who, having been asked what they think about this idea, immediately turned me down.
The aim of the 4am Project is to gather a collection of photos from around the world at the magical time of 4am. The project comes to life on 4th April 2009. Karen Strunks, the initiator of 4am Project said, “It was around 4am and I was really struck by the [Birmingham] cityscape. Streets and roads normally teeming with people and traffic were deserted. The city was asleep and it felt like I had it all to myself. I liked it”.
On Friday 13th (what a coincidence!), I contributed to the idea of taking photos at 4 o’clock in the morning (yes! - 4am) with two of my friends. The images capture the life (or lack of it) at 4am in Perry Barr, including BCU student campus, Greyhound Stadium, neighbouring subways and Aldridge Road.
Luckily, I wasn't stopped by anyone for walking in my pyjamas and taking photographs!

Good luck Dom, looking forward to seeing your pictures! I'm going to try and take a few at Heathrow airport tomorrow at 4am too, but probably not in my pyjamas!

What a genius idea! Pictures look amazing, if you are interested I am more than happy to wander around my home town, Hitchin, at 4am and take some snaps? It is uber pretty in daylight, so it would be interesting to see how it looks in the dead of night. Say hi to Tomes for me xx

That's pretty cool man! I go to BCU, and never thought would bother staying up to take photos of such a run-down area. Most people dont realise what good photos u can get. Even if its not beautiful in the normal, u can definitely make it less of an eyesore through photography.
