Rewired goes Polish

Mój pierwszy blog – na pewno zwrócił już waszą uwagę, prawda?

Since this is my first blog post and I am not very experienced in putting my very first thoughts and feelings down in writing, I will try to make them as straight forward as possible! Thanks to encouraging chats with Ruth I realised that blogging is not that scary and it could even be fun! Taking into consideration my academic background and the style of writing that I am used to, blogging on Rewired’s website will be a fantastic experience that I am looking forward to and one of the many opportunities that Rewired offers me.

First, a little bit about me. I am a student of MA Media Enterprise at Birmingham City University. My main academic background covers the areas such as Media & Communication and Marketing, in which I received my first degree and it is rooted in studying foreign languages and cultures, such as English (both British and American), German and Spanish. The interest in PR and journalism was born in Poland, where I gained the knowledge within the world of media and communications. Combining the knowledge and my devotion to foreign languages I decided to apply these two in placements in an English-speaking country. And here I am, in England, the country which offers great graduate opportunities and enabled me to develop my existing skills and gain new ones supported by the knowledge of British media and PR markets.

Rewired has turned out to be an excellent place to put into practice my PR, advertising and marketing skills which I am developing with a passion. Today, as the current economic situation continues to cause concern, it has become harder than ever for graduates to get their dream jobs and many employers are cutting graduate recruitment for 2009.

I, therefore, realised that getting involved in extra activities such as work placements is increasingly important. Thus, choosing Rewired PR and being given this opportunity I was able to not only improve my skills in the field but also increase my employability in my future career. Stretching my skills to a maximum, I am also giving back what I have learnt so far during my MA and supporting the team with ongoing projects.

As soon as I started working at Rewired I got involved in a few projects,  from the promotional campaign for Land Gold Women, whose film premiere took place on 12th February 2009, and then working though various small tasks for Wolverhampton Art Gallery. Getting involved I realised that PR is not only about completing the projects but it is about making them memorable for the clients and even remarkable in terms of the final results. And it is not the case of just completing a particular task, such as writing press releases or preparing another guest list, but mostly it is about multitasking which in a small organisation is a core element.

In addition to all this and my experiences at Rewired so far, I am keeping busy at Uni and am still extremely overwhelmed about the Inspirational Speakers Day I attended last week which added some more understanding about creative enterprises and how entrepreneurs from the West Midlands region can continue to succeed these days. Taking Rachel Hargrave, Managing Director of Phoenix Partners, PR agency, who said, “it is not important to be a big agency and to exist, but to be different”. This makes me think of ways that a project can be carried out for a client which helps the agency to become remarkable and enables them to progress.

Practice definitely makes perfect and I am looking forward to upcoming projects and new challenges at Rewired and to the results which this English-Polish collaboration will bring.

Finally, the heading translates from Polish: "My first blog post - it has already caught your attention, hasn't it?"

Thanks for reading!
