Plus Design Festival 2008

- Plus International Design Festival returned to Birmingham for its third consecutive year, 5-8 November 2008, and took place at Fazeley Studios in Digbeth.
- The festival included an extended programme of lectures, workshops, exhibitors and events that gave delegates the opportunity to hear from national and international experts in graphic and typography design for print, web and interactive media.
- Speakers at the 2008 event included; Ian Anderson, founder of Designers Republic, Jeff Willis of Perks Willis Design and Guardian cartoonist Steve Bell.
- The festival is managed by Plus Expo Ltd, a not-for-profit company based in Birmingham. Directors of Plus Expo Ltd are: Caroline Archer, Type LLP; Matthew Clugston, Clusta; James Glover, Fluid Design; Alexander Parré, Type LLP; and Lara Ratnaraja.
- Rewired was brought on board to bolster PR support in the two-week lead up to the event, to raise the festival’s profile among press for future years.
- Rewired focused on promoting Plus as an annual event taking place for the third consecutive year. As well as focusing on elements of the 2008 event, past successes were also highlighted.
- Rewired concentrated on the high profile speakers at the festival, as well as additional features such as walking tours, Baskerville project, design commissions and workshops.
- A target media list was created with particular attention to design press, local and regional newspapers and online sources.
- With a short lead time, Rewired focused on the benefits of online media, particularly blogging and social networking. Research was done into influential design media and online blogs, and messages tailored according to relevance.
- Plus International Design festival achieved regional, national and international coverage.
- Despite the short lead time, media coverage achieved was high and included a range of media; Birmingham Post, Design Week, Eye Magazine’s blog, Fused Magazine, Creative Shropshire and Birmingham: It’s Not Shit.
- In addition to this, Plus was also profiled on a number of influential design blogs, including DesignNotes, Dexigner and Ideas on Ideas.
- The nature of Plus being an innovative and design-led festival was reflected through its use of online media and specialist titles.
