A spotlight on Birmingham’s Independent talent
Retail Birmingham, the organisation that represents the city’s retail sector will host a unique catwalk show on 8th July at Great Western Arcade, to shine a light on the city’s independent stores.

The Independent Fashion Show will feature eight brand and trend-led scenes from key independent retailers within the Retail Birmingham BID area. The stores featured in the show will include Disorder, who have been championed by retail expert Mary Portas and profiled by Vogue Magazine, as well as Breina, who have been based in Great Western Arcade for over thirty years. Bullring-based Sonique, Burlington Arcade’s Uber and top retailer Metsuki, in Piccadilly Arcade, will also add a touch of high-end glamour to the catwalk.
Alongside the fashion, the models will be wearing independents from head to toe with styling from Benjamin Ryan Hair and footwear provided by Sims Footwear and Silk Step. Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shop will also be making an appearance on the night.
The fashion show follows last year’s successful ‘Celebrate Independents’ campaign, which saw 40 portraits of Birmingham’s independent shopkeepers featured in a special open air exhibition throughout July. This year, the fashion show is part of a wider PR campaign to profile the city’s independent offering, as well as the launch of the new Style Birmingham Shopping Guide, which also features a special independents section.

Kevin Breese, General Manager of Harvey Nichols said:
“In the past year, shoppers in Birmingham have spent over £2.4 billion in the retail district and a lot of this has gone into supporting our independents. We have a fantastic mix of unique shops in the city and we want to encourage shoppers and visitors to continue celebrating and exploring these hidden gems.
“In last month’s CACI Retail Footprint Report, Birmingham maintained its position as the second most popular shopping destination in England behind London’s West End for the third consecutive year and we hope that this continued awareness of our independents builds on that reputation.”
