Art Map Wolverhampton explores city’s cultural offering

Public art and cultural places of interest across Wolverhampton are being showcased to residents and visitors, following the creation of Art Map Wolverhampton.
The printed map and accompanying website makes it easy for users to access information about public art in their area. The project was supported by Centro, with the content produced by digital media and design agency Substrakt.
The agency worked with a range of schools, including King’s CE School in Tettenhall, to hold workshops with students to decide on the content and style of the map.
Andy Hartwell, managing director at Substrakt, said: “It was a real experience working with students on this project. They wanted something that stood out from other tourist maps and therefore we chose vibrant colours and illustrations to really help to bring Wolverhampton’s public art to life.
“We felt it was important to ensure the accompanying website was optimised for mobile use as it means that users can easily see what place of interest or piece of public art is nearby, whilst on the move.”
Art Map Wolverhampton is an integral part of Project Dandelion, a public art project that enables new art commissions to take place across secondary schools in the region.
Nicola Shipley, Arts Project Manager at Project Dandelion, said: “It’s great that students across Wolverhampton had the chance to shape how this project would look and I’m really pleased with the outcome.
“We chose to work with Substrakt because the team has a proven track record working with geo-location based services and always produce visually strong work.”
