Birmingham gets a beautiful day
Last week (19 March), saw the first Stylebirmingham.com ‘Beautiful Day’, a campaign to bring back ‘me time’ to the city’s shoppers. The initiative, led by Retail Birmingham, the Business Improvement District (BID) for the city centre, saw eighteen leading brands treating women to an afternoon of beauty and pampering.
With the sub-zero winter and recession gloom still hanging over the high street, Style Birmingham’s Beautiful Day was launched to bring the ‘feel-good’ factor back to city shoppers. On Friday, an assembly of women took over Birmingham’s beauty counters to treat themselves to an afternoon of exclusive treatments from leading brands including Chanel, Clinique, Nails Inc, and Toni & Guy. Independents including Bad Apple Hair and Marco Benito also took part in the day.
The Beautiful Day packages cost £49 and included three treatments, including an appointment at a top hair salon, professional make-up session, and manicure. There were also options for Afternoon Tea or Personal Shopping at Harvey Nichols, or a Champagne Indulgence at House of Fraser.
Kevin Breese, Marketing Champion for Retail Birmingham and General Manager at Harvey Nichols, said:
“The Beautiful Day concept was designed to remind women that they deserve to be treated every now and then. As well as the perfect Mother’s Day present, it was a great excuse for the city’s most stylish ladies to take the afternoon off, sit back and relax. The day was a huge success and it was great to see the women of Birmingham enjoying some well-needed attention. I imagine the glamour factor in the city’s bars and restaurants went up that night, with all the women showing off their fantastic new looks.”
Nigina Akram, Fashion Editor at Asian World Magazine took her mom on a Beautiful Day:
“Style Birmingham made our Beautiful Day more beautiful. My mom really enjoyed the whole experience and said she felt “beautiful”. I’ve not seen her smile so much in ages, and the day definitely brought us closer together.
“With a very hectic lifestyle at times we forget about taking care of the simplest basics, and I must say the package was a sensational experience.”

Following the success of the first Beautiful Day, Style Birmingham has announced that it will return in the summer. To find out when, and to keep up with the latest beauty products and trends, keep an eye on www.stylebirmingham.com.
