Birmingham wins in Clothes Show Live survey
BIRMINGHAM HAS BAGS OF STYLE IN CLOTHES SHOW LIVE 2009 SURVEY

Birmingham has been crowned as the city with the ‘Most Fashion Invention’ and ‘Most Open to New Looks and Styles’ in a survey of 1000 shoppers by Clothes Show London 2009.
Clothes Show Live has released a survey of Britain’s six largest cities in a bid to find out which had the most style. Although London came out on top for ‘Most Stylish City’, Birmingham was a very close second with only two percent less than the Capital. However, Birmingham was the only city to win more than one category, taking the prize for ‘City with the Most Fashion Invention’ and ‘City Most Open to New Looks and Styles’.
Other accolades went to Manchester for ‘Most Eclectic Fashion Taste’, Glasgow for ‘Biggest Fashion Label Lovers’ and Liverpool for being the ‘Nations Home of Shoe-Lovers’.
In the past decade, Birmingham has enjoyed a retail renaissance, with urban developments such as The Mailbox and the Bullring helping make it one of Europe’s leading style destinations. The city boasts 1000 retailers, from designers and high street brands, to independents and boutiques. Later this year, Birmingham will host The Sunday Times live fashion event, Style in the City, which returns to the city following a successful debut in April 2008.
Kevin Breese, General Manager at Harvey Nichols said,
“The results of this survey show that, in the eyes of shoppers all over the UK, Birmingham is hot on the heels of London as a fashion capital.
“Birmingham is known internationally as a city that pioneered innovation across traditional industries, and to win the titles of ‘Most Fashion Invention” and “Most Open to New Looks and Styles’ proves that the city is a driving force in fashion too.”
Style Birmingham, the brand that represents the city’s retailers, has recently launched the new ‘Always in Style’ campaign to further assert the city’s position as style capital. The campaign includes a new look website and creative advertising campaign. For more information, visit www.stylebirmingham.com
