Cadbury colleagues make sweet music for charity

Colleagues from the Cadbury site at Chirk have organised a community rock concert to raise money for the Shooting Star Unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
The colleagues, who put together a band made up of young people from the area, have organised seven events over the last three years raising over £4000 for local charities.
The band recently played a concert at a local pub, the Telford Inn, to help raise money for the Shooting Star Unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
Steve Edwards, a member of the Process Team at Cadbury, said:
“The Shooting Star Unit offers fantastic care and support to patients and families affected by cancer. We were keen to show our recognition of the hard work shown by all connected with the unit and I must give credit to all the band members for their dedication and enthusiasm which made for a really enjoyable event.”
The unit provides a specialist venue for the outpatient and day care of patients with cancer and is the base for a dedicated women's clinic. The money was donated to the unit following the recent loss of one of the band member’s family to cancer.
Ray Pritchard, Fundraising Manager at the Shooting Star Unit in Wrexham, said:
“This dedicated cancer unit is a much needed facility in an area that is suffering with one of the highest mortality rates in Wales. Through generous charitable donations from the public, we can continue to offer vital support to patients and families affected by cancer.
“I would like to say a big thank you to Steve, the colleagues from Cadbury and the young people that make up the band for all their generosity and hard work and to Cadbury themselves for match funding the event.”
The money raised by the concert was doubled by Cadbury through its Cash Match scheme, which awards employee-led fundraising.
