Cadbury employees lay foundations for horticultural study
A project to assist horticultural studies at Birmingham Botanical Gardens got under way this week, with help from a team of green-fingered Cadbury employees.
As part of a new initiative by the Botanical Gardens, a team of 14 employees from the Cadbury Risk Management department in Bournville took part in a one-day challenge to create an area for horticultural study and student practice. They were joined by Ed Skinner, Head Gardener at Botanical Gardens, who assisted them with weeding and preparing the ground for planting.
The plot resides at the rear of the gardens and is due to be developed by Cadbury volunteers throughout the summer. Once completed it will have three areas dedicated to planting fruit trees, soft and cane fruits, and ornamental shrubs.
Lilian McKenzie, Risk Management Administrator at Cadbury said,
“We always enjoy getting involved in local community projects, so when the opportunity came up to help Ed Skinner and his team, we jumped at the chance. This week’s challenge saw the first stage of a very worthy project that will help horticultural students practice their craft.
“Throughout the summer we hope to see more of our colleagues taking part in similar challenges to develop the plot. Although we have only concentrated on a relatively small area, the overall result will be a very impressive garden.”
This challenge comes as part of Cadbury’s dedication to supporting the local community, encouraging employees to take part in volunteering and fundraising. It also supports the company-wide Purple Goes Green initiative, aimed at tackling climate change and conserving the environment.
