Digital agency holds all the cards to discovering London Borough

Residents and visitors to Camden are able to experience a new way of discovering what is going on in the London borough throughout July, by using a new website that brings fortune telling into a digital age.
Mr Eks’ Camden Players reveals the area’s best kept secrets, hidden places and interesting people. The website, www.camdenplayers.co.uk, selects a list of events that are most relevant to the user, and was created in partnership between digital and design agency Substrakt, and artist-driven agency Coney for the London Borough of Camden.
Andy Hartwell, managing director at Substrakt, said: “The user is led through a series of choices by Mr Eks, the ‘master of serendipity’, who encourages you to rely on your subconscious to select from a range of different playing cards. He then reveals a list of events that are happening in Camden, relevant to the individual and based on the choices they have made. This personalisation continues on Facebook and Twitter with the ability to follow Mr Eks, who will interact with users, inviting them to secret parties and events.

“It was important to create something that could be used by all. By using the latest Javascript, HTML5 and CSS3 we were able to build a site that was fully accessible. We were also aware that people might want to access the site whilst on the move, which meant moving away from Flash-based sites in order to accommodate people with iPhones and iPads.”
Coney has created a database of over 100 events happening in Camden over the summer that aim to both explore the varied cultural communities that populate the area and highlight free events that are taking place across the borough.
Caroline Jenkinson, Head of Arts and Tourism for the London Borough of Camden, said: “With such a rich mix of events taking place over the summer, it is great that we have been able to promote them all through an innovative and engaging way that will appeal to both residents and visitors alike.”
