Families invited to make living room music
Families are being invited to feel at home with music at an interactive performance hosted by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG) next week.
On Sunday 26 April, CBSO Centre will be transformed into a living room – complete with cushions and cakes – for a performance of 'Living Room Music' by John Cage, alongside other pieces by experimental American composers Charles Ives and Percy Granger. Traditional percussion will be replaced by household objects such as tables, books and even a window frame.
The performance will launch a new concert series called Families@4, designed to give young audience members the freedom to explore pieces from a BCMG regular concert performance, taking place on the same day.
Stephen Newbould, Artistic Director for BCMG, said: “This will be a great family day out, giving children the chance to feel at home with music in a relaxed environment. They can try out parts of the piece themselves and even take away a version of the music score to try at home with the family.”
The event at CBSO Centre, Berkley Street in Birmingham is aimed at children aged 7 and over. Entry is free for children under 16, with adult tickets priced at £4.
'Living Room Music' and other pieces will be performed on the Sunday evening, in a concert conducted by Peter Wiegold. Book advance tickets now: £14 adults (£8 concessions), £5 under 16s.
