Fan of Millennium Point takes it to the I-Max

An IMAX superfan who has seen every screening at the IMAX Cinema in Birmingham is being celebrated as part of Millennium Point’s 10th Birthday celebrations.
Graham Bleakman, aged 62 from Kings Heath in South Birmingham, is taking part in the ‘My Millennium Point’ campaign which will profile ten very different visitors to Millennium Point in the run up to the much anticipated tenth anniversary celebrations in September 2011.
Graham is such a big fan of the cinematic experience that he has even asked to buy his own 3D glasses.
Graham comments:
“I first went to an IMAX screening at Grand Canyon in the USA whilst I was travelling about ten years ago. I was at once impressed by the quality of picture and sound delivered; the immediate sensory impact was mesmerizing.”
IMAX Cinema at Millennium Point first opened its doors to customers in September 2001. Since opening, the cinema has screened all sorts of films from 3D science documentaries to Hollywood blockbusters. The highest grossing film at IMAX Cinema to date is James Cameron’s AVATAR 3D which took over £778,000 at the Box Office. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is the latest offering and TRON Legacy 3D opens 17th December 2010.
Mr Bleakman continues:
“The main selling point of IMAX is its quality. I have always been interested in cinema and photography and remember going to see old Cinerama shows in the 1950’s which were fantastic. Unfortunately people stopped going; one reason being that Cinerama began to reduce the picture quality.”
Nick Winterbotham, Chief Executive of Millennium Point and Thinktank, said:
“We are continuing to enhance the viewer experience at IMAX Cinema and so far this year, over 170,000 people has visited us. Films like AVATAR, Alice in Wonderland and classics like Polar Express 3D have proved hugely popular among families, young people as well as superfans such as Graham.
“IMAX Cinema is just one element of Millennium Point and we pleased to see that part of our operation thriving. As the Eastside of Birmingham develops and more people visit the area, we’re hopeful that the IMAX Cinema will continue to flourish.”
