Jobs created with opening of new specialist academy

Over 100 new jobs have been created as specialist creative and performing arts academy, Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA), gears up for its opening. From September, BOA will open its doors to students from across the region who want to pursue a career in the creative, digital or performing arts field.
The academy’s Principal, Gaynor Cheshire, has said that half of the jobs will be filled this year, with the remaining posts becoming available in 2012 and 2013. They will include a total of 58 teachers and 37 support staff, with additional catering and cleaning personnel.
Mrs Cheshire comments: “We’ve been blown away by the interest and support for the academy and are really looking forward to opening its doors to the first intake of pupils in September.
“During its first year, the academy will be welcoming 325 year 12 students, but it is capable of supporting 950 students and as we open these places in years 2 and 3 additional staff will be employed.
“We’ve already taken on some very talented members of staff from across the region and look forward to expanding the BOA team as we continue to evolve.”
The new state of the art, multi-million pound BOA is an independent, state-funded 14-19 academy located in Birmingham’s Eastside.
