Nativity! nominated for national movie award

Christmas comedy Nativity!, written and produced by Coventry based film-maker Debbie Isitt, is in with a chance of picking up a glittering prize at the National Movie Awards next month.

The film, which was supported through Screen WM’s Advantage Media Production fund, has made the shortlist for Best Breakthrough Movie against blockbusters including Coco Before Chanel, The Time Traveller’s Wife, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and surprise smash Paranormal Activity. It is one of only two British films nominated in the category.

Nativity! was filmed around Coventry using landmarks such as the cathedral ruins. It features an all star British cast including Martin Freeman, Ashley Jenson and Alan Carr and also gave local Coventry children the chance to star on the silver screen.

Suzie Norton, CEO at Screen WM said:
“We’re absolutely delighted that Nativity! has been shortlisted. The calibre of films in the Breakthrough category is testimony to the success of Nativity!, which really captured the imagination of children and parents looking for something different from a Christmas film. The National Movie Awards are voted for by the public so we hope that everyone who enjoyed the film will support it and help it to win.”

Voting for the National Movie Awards is now open at www.nationalmovieawards.com and will close on Friday 30 April. The ceremony will be broadcast live from the Royal Festival Hall on Wednesday 26th May.
