Tamworth Girl Wins ‘Designer of the Future’

A fashion student from Tamworth has been announced as The Sunday Times Style in the City Designer of the Future.

Jessica Butcher, 17, entered the competition launched by Style in the City, the top fashion and beauty event, which takes place across Birmingham from 24 -26 September. The competition called for budding designers to create an image for the 10,000 goody bags handed out to visitors at the event.

After a close-run competition, Jessica scooped the overall prize and was presented with the bag design by TV personality and model, Emma Willis. Emma will be hosting the catwalk shows at The Mailbox throughout the 3-day event.

As well as winning tickets to the event, Jessica will see her design displayed in a window at House of Fraser in Birmingham throughout Style In The City.

Jessica, a student of fashion at Matthew Boulton College in Birmingham, said:
“I’m so excited to have won the competition and be part of such a great event.  When I was making the design I thought carefully about the colours, I wanted them to blend well lifting the image off the page and to definitely not be too traditional.  I think the image has real impact and I can’t wait to go to the event later this September with my Mum!”

Hannah Oussedik, Show Manager for Style In City said,
“The judges were all really impressed with the high standard of entries to the Designer of the Future competition. Jessica just edged ahead with her striking, iconic design which will sit perfectly on the show goody bags. Style In The City is proud to be supporting new talent, and we are delighted to be able to showcase these young during the event.”

Style in the City will be happening 24-26 September across the city, tickets and more information can be found at www.styleinthecityevent.co.uk.
