Teacher has a Great day out at Millennium Point

Andrew Williams, Great Barr School

A teacher from Great Barr School in Birmingham is being profiled as part of Millennium Point’s 10th Birthday celebrations after he organised a unique school trip at the building.

The school trip saw over 100 school pupils aged between 11 and 12 years old at Great Barr School take part in a sleep-over at Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum and was organised by Andrew Williams as part of the STEM programme which focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Andrew Williams, Assistant Head Teacher at Great Barr School, said:
“As the city’s largest Science College our ultimate goal is to educate future scientists, technologists and engineers for the city of Birmingham.

“It was great for pupils to have exclusive access to all the facilities at Thinktank and effectively share their bedroom with a Spitfire and Steam Locomotive.”

Mr. Williams is taking part in the ‘My Millennium Point’ campaign which is profiling ten very different visitors to Millennium Point in the run up to the building’s 10th Birthday celebrations in September 2011.

Nick Winterbotham, Chief Executive of Millennium Point and Thinktank, said:
“Millennium Point has fantastic facilities for schools and colleges to help educate pupils across a host of subjects. Thinktank brings many of the aspects of the STEM programme to life. Our extensive education programme includes a range of curriculum-linked activities to support the themes explored in our interactive exhibits, and our expert educational team encourage young visitors to discover how science and technology has changed our lives, in the past, the present and how it might shape our future.”
