THE RACE IS ON FOR TICKETS TO STYLE IN THE CITY 2009

TV-favourite Gok Wan will appear in Birmingham next week, when artist Ian Cook creates a large-scale portrait as part of the preparations for The Sunday Times Style in the City (24-26 September).

With only eight weeks until Style in the City hits the streets of Birmingham, the race for tickets is on. To mark the occasion, contemporary artist Ian Cook will be staging a live art show at Bullring, Birmingham on Monday 3 August.
Renowned for painting with remote-control cars and tyres, Cook has made a name for himself in the art world with his innovative use of auto-drawing. He will be using the ‘Popbang’ method to create a floor-based portrait of the famous fashion guru, spanning an area of over 3 metres.

Kevin Breese, General Manager at Harvey Nichols and Chair of the Retail Birmingham Marketing Group, said:

“Tickets for Gok Wan’s style sessions are already limited so we are encouraging people to buy tickets now to avoid disappointment. It’s great to have Gok Wan on board so we want to make sure people get to see him and share some of his infamous style wisdom.

We’re really excited to be working with Ian on this artwork; not only is he local but he’s also done some fantastic large-scale pieces. When we saw his three-storey high picture of Lewis Hamilton, commissioned by Reebok, we knew he was definitely the man for the job. We want people to see it so will be displaying it in Bullring throughout the week.”

As part of this year’s event, Gok Wan will be sharing his top tips with the audience, staging three days of live makeovers and Q&A sessions at Bullring. In addition to Gok’s style sessions, the Style in the City line-up includes a range of catwalk shows, pampering sessions and shopping treats. Visitors will be taken around on their own transport system to venues such as Bullring, The Mailbox, House of Fraser and Pavilions, for what promises to be an exciting weekend of fashion and beauty.

Tickets for Style in the City start at just £19 and include a designer goodie bag, seats at the catwalk show and Gok’s style sessions, transport around the city and access to exclusive VIP in-store events.
