Tower Block of Commons MPs face questioning from local residents

Three of the MPs featured in the Channel 4 series Tower Block of Commons have faced questioning from local residents about their experiences while making the series and their plans to tackle the issues they witnessed first-hand.

Conducted through 4iP backed social media platform Yoosk.com, residents of Newtown in Birmingham, the Goresbrook Estate in Essex, Orchard Park in Hull as well as the general public submitted questions for MPs Mark Oaten, Tim Loughton and Austin Mitchell. The questions ranged from why the MPs chose to take part in the programme, to whether the experience has changed their priorities as politicians.

23 year old single mum and dance teacher, Natina James from Newtown, who shared her flat with Tim Loughton MP during the series, went to the House of Commons to interview the MPs in a series of filmed responses.

Tim Hood, founder of Yoosk.com said:

“Tower Block of Commons created a strong reaction amongst viewers of the series, but both Yoosk and Channel 4 wanted to give a voice to the people living in the estates and provide the opportunity for them to ask direct questions to the MPs who took part.

“Their views might not always be pretty, but they are authentic, undiluted views of the people which need to be addressed if parties are to win elections and governments are to serve their constituents. The resulting interviews give a personal response to those questions that residents wouldn’t otherwise have had the opportunity to have answered.”
