UK premiere of Brit horror ‘Tormented’ in Birmingham
The young, all-star cast of new Brit-horror 'Tormented' will walk the red carpet on Birmingham’s Broad Street for the film’s national premiere this month.
Skins stars April Pearson and Larissa Wilson will join other cast and crew members at Broad Street’s Cineworld for a glitzy screening of the film on Thursday 21 May, a day before the film goes on national release at 250 cinemas across the UK.
Tormented is the debut feature from director Jon Wright and also stars 'Stormbreaker' heartthrob Alex Pettyfer. Distributed by Pathé, and part-funded by Screen WM’s Film and Media Production Fund, the film has already received critical acclaim, including a four-star review from leading film magazine Empire.
As well as receiving its UK premiere in the City, the film features both regional cast members and locations, including Bishop Vesey School and Streetly School in Sutton Coldfield, and St Peter’s Church in Harborne.
Lee Thomas, Head of Production at Screen WM said:
“'Tormented' is the third feature film to be supported by our latest raft of funding, alongside 'Nativity' and 'Souled Out', both written by regional talent. In addition to showcasing the region and supporting local writers and directors, we’re also working to ensure that regional crew and facilities benefit from this investment, alongside new talent through our Production Placement Scheme.”
The Advantage Media Production Fund is delivered by Screen WM and supported by Advantage West Midlands and the European Regional Development Fund.
Roger Allonby, Head of Tourism, Culture at Advantage West Midlands said:
“Advantage West Midlands have been very pleased to support investment in Screen West Midlands over a number of years. This is one of a number of films to come forward and be released, supporting the region’s screen, image and sound industry. It is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the film-making talent, excellence and location possibilities within the Heart of England, West Midlands Region to the world’s film-making industry.”
'Tormented' (certificate 15) goes on general release on 22 May. For more information, please visit www.tormentedthemovie.com/
