Volunteers shed new light on memorial gardens

Volunteers from the Kraft Foods Business Development Management team in Bournville have spent the day helping out at a memorial garden, used by families supported by Acorns Children’s Hospice, as part of an effort to improve the outdoor area.
The 15 volunteers pruned the trees, allowing more light into the garden, planted bulbs and improved the assist railings to enhance the experience of people visiting the garden.
Dave Moreton, who organised the day, and is a member of the Business Development team at the Kraft Foods site in Bournville, said: “Over the course of the year, we have frequently volunteered to support Acorns as part of our ongoing commitment to the charity. They do some fantastic work and we are always happy to support them in any way we can.”
The memorial garden is a place of remembrance for the hundreds of families from across Birmingham and Warwickshire that are looked after by Acorns.
Dee McCann, volunteering manager at Acorns Children’s Hospice, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Kraft Foods employees for their time and effort
over the past year. There is no charge to families for using our services and we rely on voluntary donations for the majority of our income as well as help from volunteers to maintain our high levels of care and support.”
The employees were given leave from their day jobs as part of Kraft Foods’ annual delicious difference week. The volunteering week is a global initiative which this year hopes to engage around 30,000 employees in local community activities, with a focus on hunger and healthy lifestyles.
